There are so many things to be thought of during moments of disaster, and often times you don't have much time to think about what to do. In situations where you can look back and obviously see that seconds were a deciding factor in a time of crisis, it's helpful to put the effort in before something actually does happen. The world's militaries, schools, and business do it- and you should really conduct drills and practice runs before a disaster too. Here's a list of things commonly forgotten during disaster and times of crisis:

DEEP BREATH

I'll keep this one short because you're probably tired of hearing it, but you really do need to stay calm. Someone panicking and screaming at the top of their lungs in an erratic manner while crying, flailing, and generally acting like a temper tantrum prone child never helped anyone, ever. You can practice this in your everyday life. While it seems minuscule learning to control your actions in mini 'disasters' whether it be someone getting injured unexpectedly or roadside flat in the middle of a thunderstorm it will begin to condition your brain into going into 'fight' mode rather than 'flight' mode. It will help you make better decisions, and think more clearly in situations it can difficult to think in.

FILL BATHTUBS & OTHER CONTAINERS

This is useful in most disaster situations. A bathtub can hold a lot of water which can be used for various things in the event that the water does go off. You can flush a toilet with no power, as long as you have water. If the water goes out for a week a family of three will need around 65 gallons of water just for drinking. Fill everything you can fill, and use the water purification methods listed here for drinking water.

SHUTTING OFF UTILITIES

Sure, we'd all like to ride through a hurricane with the TV on, while making some food on the stove with plans of a hot shower in the mix. While doing all three may seem 'moronic' its fairly common for people to do at least one or two of these things during a disaster. In disaster situations that have slow escalations (I.E. hurricane with a week heads up, severe storms, blizzards) and even ones that happen abruptly (I.E. earthquakes, mudslides, etc) it is important to shut your water, electricity, and gas off- especially when evacuating. While these utilities are pretty safe on their own, mixed with a disaster they can cause more problems than the conveniences they offer.

MONEY & BARTERING

If the power goes out, the credit card machines do too. And if the apocalypse ever does end up happening, having extras of things people may need will be quite handy. You need to have money (preferably in smaller bills & different forms- you don't want to end up paying fifty bucks or a whole gold coin for a loaf of bread), lots of change/coins, and stuff that you're able to barter with (several small bottles of high grade alcohol come to mind). Also, never keep everything together- if you get robbed or even lose something you don't want to lose it all at once.

EXTRA UNDERWEAR

Do I need to go into detail about why this may be useful? You answered 'No.' right?
But I'd be willing to wager that you didn't have any in your disaster kit.

IMPORTANT PERSONAL INFORMATION

Extended family members names, addresses, phone numbers- laminated on a card is incredibly useful. You should have your immediate family's birth certificates, social security cards, IDs, list of credit cards, the deed to the house, your will, any court agreements, all of your car information, and really anything of great importance in a waterproof envelop as well. Primary physicians info, lists of health problems and/or medications taken are also great adds.

A GOOD PAIR OF BROKEN IN SHOES

For all the miles you may have to walk. If your car tire gets a flat. If you can't get to the highway because the traffic is at a standstill. For the moments all you can do is run, and just keep running. Oh dear, I sound like a Nike commercial. Those shoes may be the only ones you have for a while so choose wisely. I'm inclined to recommend a skating sneaker brand, as they are so heavily padded.

DISPOSABLE WATERPROOF CAMERAS

The power may go out and your phone battery may die, and in the aftermath of a disaster a digital camera may not be as handy as you would like it to be. You should always have at least one disposable waterproof camera in your disaster kit. You may need to take pictures of the damage afterwards of your house, car, street, etc for insurance and documentation purposes.

COMMUNICATION / SAFE & WELL LIST

If you have internet access after a disaster you can report that you're safe to the American Red Cross Safe & Well List. Alternatively you should also have one extended family member who doesn't live in your geographical region act as a outlet for notifying the rest of the family of your well being. Always remember that during a disaster you will have better luck sending out a text message rather than making a phone call.

I'm totally starting to get why so many 'Preppers' devote entire basements, and in some cases even separate houses to storing all this stuff. The list of what you may need is really never ending, with new tools being made or discovered daily. It's the 'hobby' that keeps on giving.

The next thing I want to recommend to add to your disaster kit on top of a first aid kit would be a surgical kit, in the rare event that something does need to be stitched up, etc. Now while this won't help you in more serious circumstances where you actually need major surgery- it will come in handy to have. • President Barack Obama has declared the area a major disaster area as of 5/20/2013.
• As of  3 PM on 5/21/2013 there are confirmed 24 deaths. 20 in Moore (9 of which were children) and 4 from Oklahoma City.
• Over a hundred people have been resued from the wreckage thus far.
• Over two hundred people have been treated for injuries in local hospitals.
• Over 200,000 families have been displaced by the storm, as per Governor Mary Fallin.
• The storm was registered as an EF-4 tornado, and was estimated to have been at least a half a mile wide.
• The storm loosely followed the same path that the killer tornado of 1999, which slammed the area with winds of 300 MPH.
• This is the fourth tornado to hit the town of Moore since 1998.
• Search and Rescue efforts continue at this time.
• Severe storms are still moving through the Mid West region throughout Tuesday.

155 Hours - A True Story By Guest Writer Larry Neff

People are hardwired from birth for self preservation and survival, after all that's how we got here in the first place. This fact is often forgotten in a modern world containing all of the luxuries we religiously take for granted. Most people aren't prepared for anything out of the ordinary- be it a storm, a power outage, a water shortage, etc. They are comfortable on their cloud and overlook the thought that it can one day be pulled out from underneath them. 

 

When the haze of a modern world is lifted, most people find themselves in a panic- not really thinking level-headedly about anything  that they do. Not all people react this way, but the people who do largely affect the people who are prepared. In most survival scenarios the first thing you should prepare for is the people who are unprepared, because they are everywhere- and you will surely run into them on your journeys. Every once in a while I come across a personal disaster story that really sticks with me. The story I am featuring below, by guest writer Larry Neff- shows a man who is prepared survival wise for an unexpected disaster. The people who aren't prepared are the surprises in this story, and not the storm itself. Panic and unsurity are not things that people handle very well, and they will always be a big part of whatever disaster you encounter.

In situations like these it is best to avoid areas of panic, and if you are thoroughly prepared you can do this easily. One way to prepare is to make sure that you have enough supplies to get you through until order is restored, and forsake excess trips to areas of worry. Another simple way is to make sure you have always have enough gas and cash on hand to drive to an area that is unaffected by the disaster- where people are more likely to act civilized and altruistic. In the end, you can never be too prepared for the unknown- because you never really know what you will get.

"A major storm hit my little town here in West Virginia on Friday 6/29/2012 at about 7:30pm with hurricane-force winds.

Me, my wife, and our three kids were stopping by Gino's to pick up pizza's that we ordered, when all of a sudden, the sky turned black as soot. We were in line at the drive-thru and I said that this wasn't a 'normal' storm. I knew it was something else. All of a sudden, a big burst or puff of wind hit our vehicle and shook it pretty hard. I swear it felt like it shoved us back an inch or two and the dirt and dust that was hitting us, sounded like something getting sand-blasted- if you've ever heard that. I immediately peeled out and went across the street because there is a Lowe's there---so I headed for the loading bay around back.

The loading bay is a ramp that goes down into the ground about 9-11 feet, so I backed all the way down to the doors, and not a second too soon. We watched in horror as the trees bent over and touched the ground, repeatedly! There was stuff flying everywhere. My kids were crying and my wife was freaking out and I was calming them down the best that I could. It didn't last very long, but it was pretty scary. As the sky got brighter, and everything calmed down, we pulled away and drove through carnage.

The town that we just drove through, minutes before, was a disaster area. There were huge trees lying on top of cars and houses. Telephone poles were snapped off like toothpicks, while the transformers dangled by wires. Cars and trucks, flipped over. As we got on the highway to head back to our home about 12 miles away, the leaves were over an ankle deep on the roads all the way. It truly looked like a bomb went off. We were worried about what we would find when we got there.

As we tried to get to our house, we had to turn around and go back because the huge oak trees that lined the road were twisted and snapped off like twigs and lying in the road. We tried another way and it was worse--tress down everywhere. So I tried the back way, and after a little work, and maneuvering around many obstacles, we were able to get home. There were what seemed like thousands of limbs in our yard but nothing too bad. Our porch swing-glider was intact and where we left it.

I cringed at the thought of the trampoline in the back yard, but as I went around to look, to my amazement, it was right where we left it too! We got lucky, but so many didn't. There were no warnings on the radio or nothing. All we knew was that the power was out and would be for a while. We checked on neighbors (even though I don't like them) and of course, my mom and dad (they live down below us). I went in the house and dug out flash lights and dug out the candles. We lit some and just sat there in shock.

The next morning, we put batteries in a jambox and scanned to see if we could hear some news, but there wasn't too many talking about it in depth. They just said that 95% of the state was without power. Then, the day heated up. We opened all windows and doors but it didn't seem like it was helping. The next 8 days was some of the hottest on record--95°-100°+. Sitting in hot temperatures for long periods of time will make you very cranky, I can attest to that. We were putting cold, wet rags on ours, and the kids' heads to keep us cool. We would take cold showers but ten minutes later you couldn't tell that you took one. It was a bad situation.

Day in, day out, we just hung in there, hoping that the power would come back on, because the second that it did, the air conditioners were coming on with a quickness. At night, we sat around and talked with our 12 year old daughter and our 3 and 2 year old little boys. I got out my flat-top guitar and played silently in the background. My 3 year old had his nose stuck in the Nintendo DS. We had plenty of food, canned stuff and all that, so we were OK in that department. We also had water.

I went out to try and get some ice and propane bottles for my camping stove (because the ones I had in my building were missing) and what I saw enraged me. I've never seen people act the way they were acting. They were pushing little old ladies out of the way to get water. It was mass stupidity. Thousands of people were lining up to fill up there car tanks and gas cans (that's the first thing you do when it storms, dont'cha know). Lines were miles long. People were fighting and arguing. I went home because I feared for their safety had one of them crossed me.

The next day I went out and it was worse. I live by a huge lake and it was full of campers from other places. They were using up all of our resources. I went to a store to get propane bottles and this lady had about 50 of them in a buggy. I asked the clerk were more were and he told me that that lady got the last of them. She immediately looked to the ground. I calmly walked out with a fake smile on my face, known around here as the 'Insto-matic grin'. People were going crazy everywhere I looked, me knowing that most of them were NOT from here. All traffic laws were thrown out the window. It was dangerous.

I finally found a couple bottles of propane and made my way back home. All I needed it for was to make coffee, and trust me, none of those people wanna see me without my morning coffee or they would see CRrraaaaaZy! I have a propane wall mount hooked up to a hundred pound tank for back up in case the power goes off when it's cold, but I didn't want to unhook it and all that. I was sweating enough. People stopped by to see me daily to check and see how we were doing, with stories of how crazy people were acting.

As far as ice goes, there was none to be found. It was a thing of the past, like so many things that we take for granted every, single day. There was no FEMA or anything else for the first several days. Wait, I think FEMA did actually go to the Greenbrier the 2nd day, Tiger Woods was there playing golf. He must've needed water, it didn't help his game any from what I've heard.

To make a longer story a little shorter, our power finally came on Friday morning in the A.M.. I woke everybody with a loud WOOO HHHOOO! OHHH GOOODY! as I cranked the air on. I sat there and watched TV like it was the first time ever! We finally slept without being sticky-wet nastiness. I was relieved. But I immediately felt bad for all who still have not gotten power. back I want them to get it SO bad.

Little things we take for granted a lot, like power, cold air, lights, computer, etc., etc.. But it's also sickening how we've all become so dependent to these things. This has opened mine, and my family's eyes on some things like how we need to be better prepared and most importantly, become more independent. I mean, I like TV a little, and a lot of the other things, but, in a way, I would love to go back to the old ways and leave all of that behind. I can easily go into the woods and get something to eat the same as I can go to one of the many streams and get water. A lot of people here don't depend on nobody but themselves. We know the government is a joke, really. That is, unless you are one of the 1% at the Greenbrier. I think we all need to do an assessment and become more independent so we don't end up like all those crazy, panicky nuts running amok and fighting over the last loaf of bread."

Current Threats - Megatsunamis - They're Not What You Think

Megatsunamis are not fiction, in fact they are scientific fact yet many people choose to add them to the "hypothetical" category of nature. They are not- in any way, shape or form, hypothetical- in fact they are very very real. People choose to ignore things like these because they are hard to process mentally. A two thousand foot mega wave? "Hell no.. that just doesn't happen here!" I beg to differ. Not only does it happen, but it has happened in our recent history- a mere 54 years ago to be exact. Right here, in my home- The United States of America. A 1,720 foot wave washed across American soil, did you hear about it? I bet not.

How could something so majestic be so formidable?

Meet Lituya Bay, Alaska - A hydrophobic's worst nightmare.

In the evening of July 9th 1958, Lituya Bay got a taste of what a megatsunami was and just how horrifying a wave that big could be. An earthquake measuring 7.9 on the ritcher scale, occurring on the fairweather fault (aha.. even science has a sense of humor) just 13 miles southeast of Lituya Bay caused a landslide that pushed approximately 30 million cubic meters of ice and rock to fall into a narrow section of the bay. The result was a monstrous wave, of epic proportions. Based on damages to trees and foliage in the area, the wave was accurately measured to have a height of 1,720 feet, or way too fucking high by normal people standards.

Not only did this monstrous wave happened, but there were survivors. Talk about being the apple of every surfers eye, these guys actually got to ride the wave! I have officially given them both the title of the world's first megatsumani riders- Meet Sonny and Harold Ulrich, the coolest boat surfers ever.

So just how big is a 1,720 foot wave?
Let's take a look.

Now onto the worst part, it may happen again.

Current Megatsunami Threats

1. Mount Breakenridge, British Columbia - unstable rock face may destroy Harrison Hot Springs
2. Cumbre Vieja Volcanic Ridge, La Palma Canary Islands - fissure on the eastern side of summit may cause the western half to collapse into the ocean devastating the Caribbean and the Eastern Seaboard of the USA.
3. Mauna Loa or Hilina Slump, Hawaii - Landslides after volcanic eruptions may destroy Honolulu.
4. Cape Verde Islands - Debris avalanches may cause megatsunami in unknown directions.

Now let's take a look at what number 2 will look like when it happens.

Oh Boy.

While scientists still argue that the collapse of Cumbre Vieja may happen in small pieces rather than one large chunk it is important to understand that scientic fact is only scientific fact until it happens and we see it. Megatsunamis have happened in the past but it wasn't until the 1958 Lituya Bay megatsunami that it was widely accepted as fact. The scientific bickering means nothing in the end. We just have wait until it happens.

The Only Warning I Will Ever Give You - The Kill Shot From The Sun

"You're home and it's the morning, year 2012, you are minding your own business as breaking news hits the TV. "A Massive Solar Flare has occurred knocking out..." and then the TV shuts off. But then you start to realize its not just the TV it's everything. Nothing in your house works, so you go outside for answers. In the streets your greeted by hundred maybe even thousands of citizens who are wondering exactly what you are "What the fuck just happened??!?!" But no one seems to know the answer. As a person who's experienced a blackout before you head to the store to stock up on supplies, yeah- you and about a million other people. Greeted with massive lines and enraged people you realize your chances of getting everything you need are extremely low. From the back of the store someone shouts. And than another, and than another. And before you can even realize it you're in the middle of a riot and wherever you turn there's widespread panic. You make your way out of the store only to realize that this might be the end. You didn't see it coming this way, but hey that's Murphy's law for ya. You decide in this chaos your best bet is to head home and wait for some kind of information from the Government. But how will you get such information? How will the government get such information? Surely the President is sitting in his dark oval office asking his team the very same question "What do we do?"." -Me 2010

A week or two ago I was in a New Madrid forum on ATS and someone had mentioned "Clif High's Future Recent History 2020 Report". Now let's backtrack for just a moment, I have this thing- (it's weird.. saying it out loud makes me sound "crazy" but oh well) and it happens sometimes, not all the time. There are moments when I feel as though I am being metaphorically handed information, like I am sitting at a desk and someone walks in and drops a paper in front of me. Seeing that comment on ATS was one of those moments, it was as if he/she was directly talking to me. So I dropped the thread, and I went over to Half Past Human (Clif High's Website) and emailed him about the report. It was almost 3 in the morning and after 15 minutes of waiting, I figured I wouldn't get a response til the morning.. so I shut my computer down and went to bed.

I have insomnia, so there wasn't any way I was going to sleep right then and there, so I watched a movie. I wanted to watch 2012 but you know Time Warner Cable SUCKS, and the only disaster themed movie available was Knowing..(God, I sound like a spoiled brat) so I watched that. While I was watching I reached the point in the movie where Nicolas Cage is sitting in his living room watching the news, and he looks over at the clock- and as it changes from 11:59 PM to 12:00 AM there is a brief second that the clock says "Japan" under it. Bizarre. There are a bunch of theories that say this movie predicted the Gulf disaster, the Japan nuclear disaster, etc. This article is not about that though, so if you want that information you will have to go here- preferably after you finish with this :P

So in case you didn't see Knowing here's how it ends (sorry):

We see him driving through the city being destroyed by the approaching flare: buildings on fire, rising temperatures, and people in panic throughout the streets. I shrugged it off and went to bed, but it would return the next morning in a three different forms. There would no longer be any second guessing from Disaster Girl. This information was important. This information was real. This information was not three separate conspiracy theories, it was three concrete examples of one thing. One very real thing, the Kill Shot from the Sun.

Class X5.4 Solar Flare 3/7/2012

You see that? That's one of the strongest solar flares to come out of the sun in the last 5 years.. and guess what? It's nothing in comparison to what's coming. Here's some facts:

1. Clif High's webbot program was originally designed for the US Government, so they could predict future trends in the stock market.
2. The Remote Viewing programs you are about to learn about also started as a US Government program.
3. A Class X solar flare is the largest flare before switching to the Mega flare category.

Before I bring out the less mainstream sources (Which, are the ones you should be listening to.. but I understand wanting an "Authoritative" persons view so here's what NASA has to say about it.

"National power grids could overheat and air travel severely disrupted while electronic items, navigation devices and major satellites could stop working after the Sun reaches its maximum power in a few years.
Senior space agency scientists believe the Earth will be hit with unprecedented levels of magnetic energy from solar flares after the Sun wakes “from a deep slumber” sometime around 2013, The Daily Telegraph can disclose.
In a new warning, Nasa said the super storm would hit like “a bolt of lightning” and could cause catastrophic consequences for the world’s health, emergency services and national security unless precautions are taken." -Telegraph

OH... IS THAT NOT GOOD ENOUGH? WELL, HERE'S NASA'S PREPAREDNESS VIDEO FOR THEIR FAMILIES.

Now let's move on to the interesting stuff.. This is Major Ed James, a former Government Major, who has a lot to tell you.

Here's some more information from a couple more credible people..

"Astrophysicist Alexei Dmitriev says that both Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 satellites reveal that our sun, as well as our entire solar system, is now moving into aninterstellar energy cloud.Opher, a NASA Heliophysics Guest Investigator from George Mason University says this interstellar energy cloud is turbulent. Dmitriev explains that this cloud of energy is exciting the atmospheres of our planets and especially our sun. As this interstellar energy cloud continues to excite/charge the sun, it causes the sun to become more active, resulting in greater output from the sun. IE: Bigger and more frequent solar storms and CME's resulting in the Carrington effect. This interstellar cloud of electrical energy is also absorbed by the Earth, and scientist have found that it results in more earth quakes, all while dramatically effecting our weather here on earth. When asked how long will it take our sun to pass through this interstellar energy cloud, Dr. Dmitriev replied, "I don't know. But If I had to guess, I would say somewhere between two thousand to three thousand years." This interstellar cloud is a wispy band of charged particles through which our solar system is slowly moving through.

When Dr. Dmitriev was asked what are the implications of all this for earth he replied, "Global catastrophe! SOPA and PIPA scare me. And if they are passed, there’s a good chance you won’t be able to come to this site anymore. I like using other peoples work(I credit)- their stories and articles, photos and video, audio and most importantly their theories. The idea that one day I may have to pay to share knowledge with others or be censored for simply writing about something that interests me and makes me passionate is fucking overwhelming. The feeling that follows fully grasping the end of free knowledge in an quick, easy, and at your fingertips fashion will kill me.

I have this asinine question I ask my older friends... and I mean that in the nicest way possible, as I love them to death and they keep me in check with reality. The question usually goes as follows:

Did you just sit on the couch, pondering some existential question, realize you’d never know and give up?! How fucking frustrating..

It’s scary, and if it doesn’t scare you.. you don’t get it. I didn’t understand half of it when the ‘Stop SOPA & PIPA’ and ‘Keep knowledge free!’ statuses started last week. And I didn’t fully understand it until I really started researching it; after all I’ve been out of the political news section of the web and was still in an NDAA cloud. But SOPA and PIPA found me, and if they found me- they’ll find & affect you too... sooner or later.

And it won’t just be Disaster Girl- it’ll be Google and Twitter and Facebook and Youtube and the rest of the giants and anything those sites touch… which is everything, If it happens, it'll happen in the night like a thief- stealing your freedom. The Collective Unconscious, The Maya, The Dim Witted Humans - 2012

This New Year’s Eve I really opened my eyes and observed the human species (well- New Yorkers anyway.. they’re human right?) in their present environment behaving as naturally as they could. I’m used to finding genuine people scattered randomly amongst the conformist and pessimists I usually encounter, people who are content. People doing little things.. Little things that really have the power to change a world. It wasn’t a night for politeness and random acts of kindness though- to the contrary I found I was quite baffled by the amount of disgust and disappointment I felt in the people I was observing.

The New Year is supposed to signify a fresh start, an awakening, a time to leave the past in the past and look to the future- but time really is linear and when comparing a life span to the age of the universe, human life happens in an instant. Now I don’t know if it was the luck of the draw but I had the pleasure of spending my new years with a bunch of Winners, and I do mean that in the Charlie Sheen sense. Apparently, everyone I had met had decided that instead of their typical do-gooder resolutions their new resolutions this year would be to be better Racists, Bigots, and utter Douchasaurus-es. I got a firsthand look at the very things that will lead to our demise as a species, all self-induced might I add.

What did I see? Somber technology junkies. Complaint-aholics with little to no appreciation. People rushing their lives to meet an early grave. People so disappointed with everything they become instigators. Greedy- yet-totally-cheap-ers. Living-but-lifeless individuals tied up in their own subconscious.. A place no one should be confined to for long periods- especially when you exhibit one or more of the aforementioned qualities.

I walked around Hell’s Kitchen for a while, (ahh.. the irony) and the city was breathtaking. The buildings were lit up, the street was quiet and calm which surprised me, and the weather was the best you could ask for on a December night in the Big Apple. It was the first time in a long time that I was actually appreciating the city, the night had a sense of newness to it. I felt good, I was happy and I was looking forward to taking it in for a while before I got ready to bring in the new year. And then humanity showed up.

First I went to get a drink at the corner bodega, I needed a caffeine fix until party time. The store was pretty big and the Arab man who was working there apparently felt I needed to be followed and watched while shopping, you know.. because I’m obviously going to drink my coffee, go bat-shit crazy, and try to rob/kill him.

Mind you.. This is what I pretty much looked like, only better dressed.

Obviously I have a 9mm tucked into my pants and am going to ruin your evening.

But nevertheless I trekked on. I decided to sit in the park on ninth for a bit and drink my coffee and secretly smoke a couple cigarettes, because this is America- but I am not free to smoke where I please anymore. This country got rich off tobacco products and hide the information about just how poisonous the product is yet I am the one punished for it. In the park there was a group of preteen girls obsessing over their divinity. I realized as I was listening that the godliness they were referring to was in fact just sexual depravity in disguise. It didn’t really surprise me though after all I heard two fifteen year olds discussing blow jobs on the bus last week.

I left the park and started heading to Port Authority so I could go home and get ready for the night. Heading there was uneventful, other than the thousands of police officers I passed while walking ten blocks. A night of fun in the city usually requires the entire concerted efforts of the NYPD, but in a post 9/11 New York City- trust issues are yesterday’s news. I got to Port Authority and headed for a long line of pissed off, tired, agitated people. The man in front of me was an elderly Vietnamese man, who although was wearing a scowl- seemed as though he had quite a pep in his step. Directly in front of him was a Chinese family, which I could tell because of the countless hours my daughter spends watching Ni Hao Kai Lan.

After about ten minutes of us being on line the Chinese family leaves to, I assume, get a different bus or something. As they walked away the Vietnamese man pretended to pull a machete (at least that’s what I imagined) out of his waistband and air-decapitate them all as they walked down the stairs. A Chinese family, with two young kids. He also made no attempt in hiding this action.

I got on the bus and sat as far away from the Vietnamese man as I possibly could. I had given up my hope of seeing a drastic change in the love, compassion, and kindness people have and show. World Peace? Not on the menu this year, Miss America. And just when I thought it couldn’t get any worse…

I was confronted with this.

I was feeling extremely daunted about the prospective future of this species. These people are the products of this society, and if they’re this fucked up.. Are the rest of us too? We’re disarrayed and even with all those neatly paved roads under our neatly tied shoes… we’re lost and we don’t know which direction to go in. But this is good hopefully. The fact that we recognize the unrest within our species shows that the collective unconscious is awakening and becoming more apparent in everyone.

C. G. Jung’s Definition of the Collective Unconscious

The collective unconscious is a part of the psyche which can be negatively distinguished from a personal unconscious by the fact that it does not, like the latter, owe its existence to personal experience and consequently is not a personal acquisition. While the personal unconscious is made up essentially of contents which have at one time been conscious but which have disappeared from consciousness through having been forgotten or repressed, the contents of the collective unconscious have never been in consciousness, and therefore have never been individually acquired, but owe their existence exclusively to heredity. Whereas the personal unconscious consists for the most part of complexes, the content of the collective unconscious is made up essentially of archetypes.

The concept of the archetype, which is an indispensable correlate of the idea of the collective unconscious, indicates the existence of definite forms in the psyche which seem to be present always and everywhere. Mythological research calls them "motifs"; in the psychology of primitives they correspond to Levy-Bruh's concept of "representations collectives," and in the field of comparative religion they have been defined by Hubert and Mauss as "categories of the imagination." Adolf Bastian long ago called them "elementary" or “primordial thoughts." From these references it should be clear enough that my idea of the archetype - literally a pre-existent form - does not stand alone but is something that is recognized and named in other fields of knowledge.

My thesis, then, is as follows: In addition to our immediate consciousness, which is of a thoroughly personal nature and which we believe to be the only empirical psyche (even if we tack on the personal unconscious as an appendix), there exists a second psychic system of a collective, universal, and impersonal nature which is identical in all individuals. This collective unconscious does not develop individually but is inherited. It consists of pre-existent forms, the archetypes, which can only become conscious secondarily and which give definite form to certain psychic contents.

I find it amusing that the collective unconscious has chosen to become more prevalent in the “end times”. The Maya’s were a truly astounding civilization with an unprecedented knowledge of the cosmos, something they literally had no reason or tools to involve themselves in in the first place. And while the actual translations of what the Maya said would happen at the end of their calendar year (End of Baktun) are often misconstrued or assumed- the thing the Maya were warning us about was and will always be very simple.

The Maya believed that the end of each baktun was a moment of great danger, a moment at which their ‘Gods’ could end the world. The creator Maya deity being Itzamna or Hanub Ku, a God who had created three worlds, two of which he had already destroyed through a deluge and was destined to destroy the third with a universal flood as well(ours). The Maya believed that these wiped out civilizations were failed attempts, the first being dwarfs and the second being a mysterious group known as “The Offenders”, the human species being just another design error.

It is very easy for humans to acknowledge and even believe in this stuff, as we are very primitive with our beliefs. Add the fact that we are lost, hate everyone & everything, and enjoy seeing others suffer- and we practically beg for humanities demise. The majority of us believe there is some outside force that ultimately decides our fate, and there's no place like a bible for an good old apocalypse scenario. So would it really be so ludicrous to think that perhaps the Maya were there to see the beginning, or at least around early enough to know what the beginning was? We are all obsessed with the big question- “What is the meaning of life?“ Could it be death? Could we just be a stepping stone to something else? And if that’s so what the fuck man, I mean really?

This year is big. So much is changing. So much is going on. There are revolutions. There is war. There is famine. There is greed. There is disdain. We are lost, we feel hopeless, and we could be giving up. When the end game is unclear, you don’t know what kind of effect your actions can have. A simple assumption can cause the extinction of a species.

Strong, but truthful words from one of the top US trend forecasters. This week The S&P downgraded the U.S. Credit Rating from AAA to AA+, also adding that another downgrade to AA is expected in the next two years. This week is a portion of our children's future history books. We knew that we were watching history in the making when Obama was elected President, but now- not so much. Few people will even admit that we are even in a depression, instead they choose to use the cliche "recession". [FYI, there isn't an economic adviser/analyst in the world who can actually define the differences between a Recession VS. Depression. Come at me brah, I'm right. If you ask.. let's say 50 different advisers, you'd get more than 50 different answers. Funny how the top minds of this field can't even get on the same page with one of the basics of their chosen careers.] The term "recession", pisses me the fuck off. To me, it really feels like they invented the term to create a downward slope into a depression, so the American people could slowly be weaned into it, without causing too much alarm or panic. For those of you who don't know, the term "recession" when used to describe an economic state was first used in 1929 by a man named Irving Fisher. Mr. Fisher was, at the time, the lead U.S. economist and mind you the first usage of this was days after Black Tuesday. [Black Tuesday AKA The Wall Street Stock Exchange Crash of October 29, 1929 AKA the "supposed" beginning to The Great Depression] The mere mention of the word "recession" should give us all a shudder, unfortunately it usually gets a reaction similar to "Oh.. well at least it's not a depression!" ... *sigh* when will these people wake up?


Recently, I've come to the conclusion that these people:


1. Prefer to live in complete darkness because
A. They can't mentally, physically, or emotionally handle the truth
B. Admitting the truth would be detrimental to their value and
C. Admitting the truth to themselves would be admitting the truth to the masses, therefore doing so would be metaphorically bending over and taking their own dick.

OR

2. Pretend to live in a cloud of stupidity, so the other people they come in contact with also continue to live in the aforementioned cloud so that they can
A. Buy gold and prepare for the coming trouble without having to worry about limited availability and their own well-being or
B. This is basically A only in this one they are just robbing the other people, whereas with the other one they're being duped because those people choose to live in dogma.


Or honestly, possibly a combination of the two.



I hope you're not one of them, but I can't be mad if you are, I think I might have been one.. O.O. After all, an economic collapse was not on my list of disasters to prepare for. && Let me be honest for a moment- This blog been up for.. less than a year? You and I know both know that we were already in a depression, recession- whatever you wanna call it- then, yet I chose never to address it here. But *as I pat myself on the back* I'm do believe that I played my cards slightly better in the real world then most. Perhaps I'm wrong, where's an absolute mind when you need one.. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯


One thing we are very good at doing in America is living in dogma [n. a settled or established opinion, belief, or principle.]. Mind you, these are only opinions, beliefs, and principles PEOPLE, all of which are arbitrary and rarely based upon concrete evidence or fact, instead they are based on personal inclinations. But we're good at it, so let's own it. You can choose who you believe. Never forget that one of the main reasons people choose to be Americans or choose to continue being American citizens is because we have freedom. Freedom of Choice, Freedom of Religion, Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Assembly, Freedom of the Press, Freedom of Petition.. Need I go on? ... USE THEM. Choose who you listen to, choose who you believe in- and don't ever feel guilty for changing your mind. For instance, I was an Obama-Mama, but in the coming election, I doubt I'll recast that vote, if I vote at all. Don't be afraid to admit you were wrong, even if it's just to yourself at first. The sooner you do these things, the sooner all of America will wake up- the sooner we'll all be a lot better off. Like the Uncle Sam posters say We NEED YOU, because without one, there can not be two- and if one chooses not to live rightly, two and one don't stand a chance.


Here's your chance, in under 32 minutes you can change you're outlook, this could even be the window that opens that changes your life. This is Mr. Gerald Celente (with Alex Jones), if you don't know who he is look him up- his track record speaks for itself. If you're gonna believe anyone, why not believe someone who's currently right, instead of being brainwashed by the ones who are wrong over and over again.








I can't in good conscience provide you guys with a disaster plan for the economic collapse of a country and perhaps that's why I never did so. I don't think there are a lot of people who could, but I can leave you with some wisdom. Start thinking for yourself- come up with your own conclusions. Don't base your financial decisions on what "they" say, whether it be the government, a financial adviser, or a financial report. You need to be able to handle these things yourself, so if you don't understand it, figure it out. You should never put your livelihood in the hands of someone else, whether it be a stock broker, a sale associate, or a bank. This isn't a lesson you want to learn the hard way, trust me.

On January 12th 2010, the Island Nation of Haiti was struck by a devastating magnitude 7.0 earthquake. The country, which was already poverty stricken- was severely damaged by the earthquake. In the weeks following Haiti was hit by 54 aftershocks that destroyed any buildings that remained standing after the original quake.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located just outside of Léogâne- which is only sixteen miles away from Haiti's capital, Port-Au-Prince. In the months after the devastating earthquake many Countries donated relief and recovery funds, and lent crews to help in the rescue efforts. One year later and the country lays in a standstill, with only 2-4% of the rubble being removed. Most Haitians, to this day still reside in makeshift tents and camps created in the weeks following the earthquake.

According to the Red Cross, three million Haitians were affected by the massive earthquake. The Haitian government also estimated that approximately 230,00 people had died, another 300,000 injured and at least 1,000,000 made homeless. The Prime Minister of Haiti, Jean-Max Bellerive, also stated that 250,000 homes were destroyed- as well as 30,000 businesses lost.

Oxfam International, a company who's job is to find solutions to poverty and injustice, released it's Relief to Recovery report(cite) this week citing the many problems facing Haiti now. Oxfam summarized this report also listing recommendations to help Haiti speed up the pace of their recovery.

PORT-AU-PRINCE – In a report released today, international agency Oxfam called on the Haitian authorities, with support from the international community, to move forward on plans to start rebuilding the shattered country and enable close to one million people still living in tents and under tarpaulins to resettle or return home.

The report, “From Relief to Recovery“, blames a lack of progress on a crippling combination of Haitian government indecision, rich donor countries’ too frequent pursuit of their own aid priorities, and a lacklustre Interim Haiti Recovery Commission, which was established to coordinate reconstruction efforts and build state capacity.

Roland Van Hauwermeiren, country director for Oxfam in Haiti said:
“This has been a year of indecision and it has put Haiti’s recovery on hold. Nearly one million people are still living in tents or under tarpaulins and hundreds of thousands of others who are living in the city’s ruins still do not know when they will be able to return home.

“Rebuilding this shattered country will not happen overnight, but there are key decisions on jobs, clearing rubble, house repairs and allocating land for people who will not be able to return to their homes that can and must be made urgently. We now need the incoming government of Haiti to take its leadership role. The international community, including NGOs, must unite to support the government so that Haitian authorities will have a chance of succeeding.”

Despite the success of emergency lifesaving aid after last year’s earthquake, long-term recovery from the disaster has barely begun. Public donations as well as funding from donor governments and multilateral institutions for the emergency aid effort were exceptionally generous. However, of the $2.1 billion pledged by governments for reconstruction in 2010, only 42 percent had been given by the end of the year according to the UN Office of the Special Envoy for Haiti.

“Too many donors from rich countries have pursued their own aid priorities and have not effectively coordinated amongst themselves or worked with the Haitian government. This seriously weakens the government’s ability to plan and deliver on its sovereign responsibility – to lead reconstruction,” Van Hauwermeiren said.

Most donors provided funds for transitional housing but very little money for clearing rubble or repairing houses. One year on, only five percent of the rubble has been cleared and only 15 percent of the required basic and temporary houses have been built. House building on a large scale cannot be started before the enormous amount of rubble is cleared. The government and donors must prioritize this most basic step toward helping people return home.

The Interim Haiti Recovery Commission, led by former US President Bill Clinton and Haitian Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive, was set up in April 2010 to facilitate the flow of funds toward reconstruction projects and to help Haitian ministries with implementation. So far, the Commission has failed to live up to its mandate. Many Haitian officials still do not have the technical ability to lead projects, and almost no major reconstruction projects have started. The Commission is a key element for reconstruction and it must cut through the quagmire of indecision and delay.

Despite the current political crisis Haiti’s political and economic elites still have a once in a lifetime chance to address many of the issues that have held back the country’s development. But the process must start now.

“If Haitians are to support themselves then the reconstruction effort must also give priority to helping people earn a living. Above all else, Haitians want to get back to work and provide for their families. They aren’t asking for charity, but for a chance to be part of the process to rebuild their own country. After going through so much last year, Haitians deserve that chance,” Van Hauwermeiren said.

One year on, Oxfam is providing aid to over one million people as part of two emergency responses: one for earthquake relief and one to respond to the cholera epidemic that has swept the country since October, killing over 2,600 people.

OXFAM INTERNATIONAL RECOMMENDATIONS

The new Haitian government should:

Show real political leadership and urgency in reconstructing the country, including by developing a public works program that creates jobs and builds skills; supporting homeless families to return or resettle in appropriate locations; implementing social protection programs such as cash transfer and micro-credit programs; and investing in agriculture and Haitian businesses; Put measures in place to reduce corruption and improve accountability, and speed up the decentralization of power to local authorities.

International donor governments, the UN, and international NGOs should:

Work far more closely and effectively with the Haitian authorities, reinforcing their capacity and working to improve the performance of ministries;

Donors should release funds promised at the New York conference in March 2010 and improve transparency related to pledges and disbursements. They should co-operate much more closely with each other and should harmonize policies and priorities;

Major stakeholders, including Bill Clinton, should urgently review the workings of the IHRC and speed up delivery of its mandate.


The Haitian authorities, donor governments, the UN, and international NGOs should:

Consult, communicate and effectively involve Haitian citizens in the reconstruction of their country and ensure recovery programs reflect their priority needs.
